Split billing for charging stations

The rise of electric mobility is quickly changing the habits of businesses, hotels and even co-owned residential buildings. Installing shared charging stations is becoming essential, but a practical problem arises straight away: how do you split the costs fairly between the different users?

ChargeStream: split billing for charging stations born in the field

This is exactly the challenge the Belgian distributor of Mennekes charging stations faced with its customers. Hoteliers, for example, struggled to work out who had used what, and to recharge each session correctly. Rather than settle for a makeshift Excel spreadsheet fix, Yelido chose to turn this difficulty into a digital solution.

Keen to take on a challenge as concrete as it is useful for the ecological transition, our software development agency designed ChargeStream, a web application for managing and sharing billing (split billing) for electric charging stations.

Why is split billing for charging stations a real business challenge?

Shared charging is not just a matter of cables and electricity: above all, it is a question of transparency and trust. Without a suitable tool, managers end up collecting data manually, piling up calculations in Excel and justifying their cost allocations to sceptical colleagues or co-owners.

This administrative headache slows down the adoption of shared charging stations. Yet if we want to encourage electric mobility, it is crucial to remove these obstacles and make management simple and fair. ChargeStream was designed precisely to meet this recurring need: custom split billing software for charging stations, built for real-world conditions.

ChargeStream today: an already complete split billing solution for charging stations

ChargeStream centralises all charging data: duration, energy consumed, charging station used and user concerned. Each session can be automatically assigned to a person, a vehicle, a project or a department, with no manual entry.

The great strength of this split billing tool for charging stations is its ability to allocate billing flexibly. Costs can be split according to several rules: fixed fee, defined quotas or custom rates. No more endless discussions: each user sees exactly what is charged to them.

Clear reporting completes the solution: it feeds accounting, HR management or internal mobility. Each employee also has a secure personal area to view their history and consumption. The result: clear time savings, no more errors and a transparency that strengthens trust between all stakeholders.

ChargeStream tomorrow: split billing does not stop there

At Yelido, we know that specialised software never stops at its first version. ChargeStream is designed as a scalable split billing platform for charging stations, for which we still have development plans:

  • Integrated invoicing: PDF generation and interoperability with the Peppol standard.
  • Connection to accounting software: fully automate recharging.
  • Native mobile app: book a charging station, start or stop a session, receive live notifications.
  • Online subscription portal: give external or occasional users easy access to the service.

Anecdote: we at Yelido use ChargeStream ourselves to manage split billing for the charging stations of our own internal fleet. We test new features there first, to guarantee our clients a robust, practical and scalable solution.

ChargeStream was born from a concrete need: to simplify and make reliable the allocation of shared electric charging costs. Today, it enables businesses, hotels and co-owned buildings to manage their charging stations with full transparency, while supporting the ecological transition in our own modest way. Tomorrow, it will keep evolving to offer ever more simplicity and automation.
